ICO is rapidly taking its place worldwide. Particularly, it has been used explosively
to fund startups.
From my understanding, around 300 new ICOs are being launched every month.
In South Korea, about 10 ICOs have been launched so far.
Due to Korea’s ban on ICOs, most of them are being launched abroad.
Why are these startups so actively jumping into the ICO market? Let’s consider
the reason why.
The existing small enterprises with good business models have been inevitably
facing challenges of raising capitals to grow their business. Without the vital funds,
even a brilliant idea would go unnoticed.
Traditionally, the startups would have to rely on venture capitalists or large investors
to supply the shortage.
This process, however, may easily drag them under the control of the large capitals.
ICOs provide an alternative solution to these startups— their good ideas and
technologies can be recognized without giving away equity or control to investors.
More money would be raised by many people through fund-raising.
Despite its pros and rapid growth, however, ICOs are filled with risks.
As most ICO companies are in the very early stages of development, there is a
stronger sense of responsibility for them to prove their technologies and success
to the investors.
